Pebble Sold 400,000 Smartwatches in 2013

Pebble have snagged somewhere in around $60 million in revenue from selling their Smartwatches. They sold 400,000 devices last year. In 2014 Pebble is on track to double that revenue figure. Thats $120 Million!
Pebble are still very confident in their place in the Smartwatch market. Their is a growing amount of competition and earlier this week Google unveiled the Android Wear SDK and Apples iWatch is expected to released later this year.
“When we started working on wearables six years ago, there were few players in the space and a lot of skeptics,” says Pebbles CEO, Eric Migicovsky. “It’s exciting to see this market grow so quickly — enabling more interesting use cases and keeping all of us laser-focused on creating the very best user experiences we can.”
So far 2014 has been a big year for Pebble, after introducing the Pebble Steel watch back in CES. They have also released a major update to their iOS app back in February. It brought Pebbles own “AppStore” with more that 1,000 different apps and watchfaces.

New Google Passwords – SlickLogin

Pic: TechCrunch

There may be an update of passwords on google after the companies latest purchase deals with creating audio passwords. SlickLogin is one year old and is based in Israel. SlickLogin are responsible for developing a security system that uses audio to verify a user’s identity. SlickLogin has still yet to release this technology commercially.

It does this by playing a uniquely generated sound from your computer’s speakers, which is picked up by the mic on your smart phone. The app analyses the sound and sends a signal back to confirm the user’s identity.

According to Techcrunch, the service was built to be used either as a password replacement or as a secondary layer on top of a traditional password. Google already has two-step verification process, which requires you to enter in a code sent to the user’s phone via SMS.

SlickLogin said in a statement :

Today we`re announcing that the SlickLogin team is joining Google, a company that shares our core beliefs that logging in should be easy instead of frustrating, and authentication should be effective without getting in the way.

Google was the first company to offer 2-step verification to everyone, for free – and they’re working on some great ideas that will make the internet safer for everyone. We couldn’t be more excited to join their efforts.

Where parts of a Computer Tower come from

Have you ever wondered where all the parts of your tower come from? Well let me show you.
Lets start with the frame, most likely the frame is made of plastic but where did that plastic come from. Placstic is made from oil and some countries that have oil like Saudi Arabia, Canada and Russia. Some countries that turn this raw material into plastic include China, the US and Germany. Then once turned into plastic it then needs to be shaped into the frame which would be done in china.

Now lets talk about some of the hardware. Somthing like your Processor is possibly made by Intel. Intel manufacture some of their processors in Ireland. The resources to make that product may have come from all around the world. Once the processor is made then it needs to be assempled which most likely will be made in China.

So the parts of your computer have come from all around the world. Have a look at some other products in your room and think about where all the parts may have come from. Most likely they have come from all around the world.

The history of the "Computer Mouse"

These days the computer mouse is a very important input device for your desktop computer. But not too long ago that there was no computer mouse and had no graphic user interface (GUI) Data was only entered into by the keyboard. In 1972 Bill English developed the “Ball Mouse”. This was a ball placed in a box which came into contact with two rollers. These rollers spun wheels which generated electrical pulses which represented speed and direction.

There were many problems with the ball design was that the ball often became dirty and would not function properly. In 1980 they created a solution and this was the “Optical Mouse” However this design was not cheap and was too expensive to be used worldwide. It wasn’t until around 1998 that the optical mouse was cheaper to produce. The Optical Mouse then was implement into the consumer market for an average consumer to buy. Today the Optical Mouse has completely replaced the “Ball Mouse”

PlayStation Now - Console Free Gaming

The future is upon us! Many people already stream movies and Tv shows directly to their internet connected TV's. Soon you will be able to do the same but with the PlayStation 3.

This means that you will no longer need a console to play some of the consoles games. Sony have launched a new service called PlayStation Now. Users will have access to the PS3 library you will be able to stream the PS3 games in your latest console as well as the PS Vita and the latest Sony Bravia TV's. Sony are also planning to bring this service to you Tablets and smartphones and also to any internet connect TV.

Gamers will be able to play on multiple devices and always play the latest version of the game which would be hosted on the cloud. Gamers will be able to save their progress on the Sony Entertainment Network account.

Personally I think it all sounds great but how well will it all work? If it all works does that mean we will never need to buy a console again and just stream our games over the internet?

Jump - Charge your phone on the go

Native Union Jump consists of a central hub which contains an 800mAh battery and a cable with a Lightning adapter or micro-USB at one the end and at the other end a USB plug. Jump is compact & lightweight. It will allow you to charge you phone on the go and charge you phone up another 30%. This give you another 3hr 50mins of Talk time or web browsing and 87hrs on Standby time. The device can easily fit in your pocket with a size of (50mm x 50mm x 13.6mm) weighing only 40g.

Jump automatically starts to charge itself once your phone reaches full power. There are many options already available for charging your phone on the go such as the Battery Jacket and Power bank. The Battery Jacket is just too big and bulky and doesn't really look that nice and the power bank requires you to carry and constantly recharge the device which just isn't convenient.

Jump will be costing $50 and will be launched in May 2014. It is quite expensive but if you are are ever going to need that little bit of extra power for your phone while on the go this is definitely the option for you.

We've seen some great portable chargers here at CES 2014... the Native Union solution is a winning one.

Sony 4K Camcorder Ultimate High Definition

Sony will be releasing new 4K consumer camcorder. If you are looking to buy one you better save up as this new camcorder will set you back $1,999. This camcorder will be able to record in amazing (3,840 x 2,160) at 30 frames per second or (1920 x 1080) at 120 fps. This will allow users to create some nice clear slow-motion shots.

Sony will most likely be manufacturing this camcorder in China. If we take into account that the average pay per hour is $1.36 for a factory worker in China and they are selling the camera for $1,999 it is unreal the amount of profit they must be making from each sale of the camcorder.

Personally I think that it is great that a consumer can purchase a 4K camera but the price tag is very high and may not be in the price range of an average consumer. If you need to be able to capture in 4K this is deffinatly one you should consider purchasing

The  Camcorder (FDR-AX100) will be available for purchase in March 2014.

$4.5 million Lamborghini Veneno Roadster

The Lamborghini Veneno is truly one sexy car that would be a dream for millions to own but only a few actually have the money to buy such a car.

The car comes with high end music system powered by monster. The audio system alone costs around $50,000.  The only down side is that for the model with no roof it may be hard to hear the sound from the speakers when travelling at over 200 km/h down the high way.

The exterior and interior of the Lamborghini is made from a carbon fiber material. They are only building 9 Veneno with no roof which is more than the hard top Veneno which they only made 4 of and only 3 can actually be sold.

The car will have:

  • A 6.5 liter 12 cylinder engine with a ISR transmission.
  • The car accelerates from 1 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and with a top speed of 355 km/h.

Personally I think this is one sexy car and whoever is luck enough to have one will defiantly be driving around in style!
